I previously compared the 1969 Mets to the 2015 version. But the three-game sweep by the Pirates is indicative that, other than the starting rotation, there is not much likeness.
The 1969 version played impeccable defense...not only did they make the plays...but they knew HOW to properly play the game. There were not a lot of bonehead mistakes...which is so indicative in today's game in general. The 2015 version seems to make a mistake and the doors come off. It is obvious that the Mets have the ability to beat up on the bad teams like the Rockies but run into a buzz saw when they meet up with good teams like the Pirates and Rays who are so fundamentally sound. Bartolo Colon, Jonathan Niese, and Matt Harvey were not on top of their games, yet they still turned in good performances. The fact is, the Mets are STILL having trouble hitting consistently and against the good teams, it shows, as do all of the mental lapses in the field.
